Dr. Alejandro Alvardo

Born in Mexico City, Dr. Alejandro Alvarado is a public relations and a political communications consultant and scholar. He is the former professor at Florida International University’s School of Journalism and Communication, and Director of the Spanish-language Journalism Master’s program, Chair of the Hispanic Communications Conference Series, and Director of the Telemundo Hispanic Media Futures Program.
Dr. Alvarado has been Vice President at Porter Novelli and Senior PR Consultant at Turkel Brands, managing clients in the U.S. Hispanic market and Latin America, including Fortune 500 companies and Latin American governments. He is founder and president of Alvarado Communications, a consulting public relations firm, and founder and communication strategist at 720 Grados, a political consulting firm.
As a journalist, Dr. Alvarado has an extensive career that includes broadcast, print, and digital media, in Univision, CBS-Telenoticias, and CNet. He has written opinion articles for Spanish-language dailies in the U.S. and Mexico.
He is autor of “Mexicanos al Grito de Guerra!” Immigrants in the U.S. Armed Forces. 2005, Random House Mondadori; Evolving Realities of US Hispanic Media, 2012, Florida International University; Silencio de Otoño, President Carlos Salinas de Gortari’s National Security Policy in 1993; and “Diccionario de Administración Pública, from the Nacional Association of Public Administrators in Mexico.
Alejandro Alvarado holds a BA in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Mexico, a Masters Degree in Inter American Studies (1996) and a Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of Miami (2003).
